SHAW HEADS TO DIVISION I N.C. CENTRAL SATURDAY IN FOOTBALL

RALEIGH, NC – After suffering its first loss of the season a week ago, Shaw University will look for its first win on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Division I N.C. Central. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at the O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Bears are in search of its first win over the Eagles in 68 years and hopes of snapping a 20-game losing skid against NCCU this weekend.

Saturday's contest will mark the first meeting between the two head coaches, Adrian Jones of Shaw and Jerry Mack of N.C. Central. Jones, an alumni and former standout student-athlete of the Eagles football program worked under Mack as the before becoming the 17th head football at Shaw.


The Teams:
The Bears (0-1) are coming off a 31-20 loss to New Haven at home. Shaw was outscored 10-7 in the second and 7-6 in the fourth quarter. Senior wide receiver Trevante Long (Greenbelt, MD) finished with 121 yards on five receptions while sophomore running back Tevin Perry (Bunn, NC) ran for 54 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown in the setback.


As a unit, Shaw concluded the game with a total of 283 yards (120 rushing, 163 passing).


NCCU (0-1) is also coming off a 60-7 loss at Duke last weekend. The Eagles were highlighted by Isaiah Totten's 81-yard touchdown run while Micah Zanders completed 10-of-17 passes for 91 yards with an interception. Defensively, Reggie Hunter posted a game-high 10 tackles.

Shaw will return home to host Malone in non-conference contest at Durham County Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
