RALEIGH, NC – Shaw University football will open up the 2017 season against the University of New Haven on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. EST in front of a home crowd at Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Saturday's contest will be the first meeting for both programs in school history.
Following a 2-8 season and first year for head coach Adrian Jones, the Bears have made new heights with the addition of players in every position this season. Going into the opening game, Shaw has 46 players that were on the roster a season ago which were over 50-percent true freshman, including All-CIAA Preseason – sophomore Devon Hunt (Rockingham, NC).
The Bears were predicted to finish ninth overall in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and fourth within the CIAA Southern Division. Shaw will look to improve on last season's record after ending their 2016 slate with a win at Saint Augustine's in the first-ever Raleigh Classic.
New Haven, a member of the Northeast-10 conference finished its 2016 with a 7-4 record, 7-2 mark against league opponents and a second place finish overall within their conference under head football coach Chris Pincince whom is now entering his third season at the helm.
