Darnell Evans and Evan Strange Win CIAA Weekly Honors

RALEIGH, N.C. - Shaw University's Darnell Evans and Evan Strange won CIAA Player of the Week honors for their performances in Shaw's 28-24 loss to #13 Winston-Salem State on Saturday.

Evans (Sr., DB, 5-9, 181, Madison, NJ) won his third Defensive Player of the Week award of the season.  Evans, who leads Division II in interceptions, garnered another two picks against the Rams. He returned the second pick 88 yards for a touchdown, and had 104 total interception return yards. He also had four tackles and a forced fumble.

Strange (Jr., DL, 6-2, 255, Charlotte, NC) was named Defensive Lineman of the Week after he led the Bears in tackles with 11, including nine solo hits. Four of those tackles were for a loss and one was a sack. Strange anchored a defense that held the high-powered WSSU offense more than 100 yards below their season average.

The Bears close out their season Saturday when they host cross-town rival Saint Augustine's at 1:00 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium.  At 12:30 p.m., Shaw will honor the 19 seniors on the squad.
