RALEIGH, N.C. —Shaw University announced the signing of 15 football players to National Letters of Intent on Thursday.  The signees include seven high school players and eight transfers from junior colleges and four-year universities.

"We're pleased with this year's class," said Shaw head coach Robert Massey.  "We've filled some key holes, especially on defense.  We gave up too many points last year and we've worked hard to shore up the defensive line and linebacking corps."

Six of the recruits are from North Carolina.  "We recruited heavily in our own backyard," said Massey.  "We want to help solidify our fan base and think this group will spark a lot of local interest."

Last season, quarterback James Stallons broke just about every passing record in the Shaw book.  With his departure, Massey is looking forward to a strong competition for the spot next year.

"We're bringing in Trevius Folston from Jacksonville University to compete with Quinshon Odom," Massey said.  "I think that's going to be a strong position for us this year."
