Evans and Langford Earn CIAA Weekly Honors

[Raleigh, NC] - Shaw cornerback Darnell Evans was named CIAA Defensive Back of the Week and running back and kick returner James Langford was named CIAA Specialty Player of the Week for their performances in Shaw's 31-27 loss to Division I-FCS Delaware State.

Darnell Evans (Soph., 5-9, 181, Madison NJ), a preseason All-American selection, was everywhere on defense in Saturday's game.  He pulled in two interceptions in the first half alone, returning one for 70 yards.  He also had one fumble recovery, five solo tackles and broke up two passes.

James Langford (Jr., 6-1, 220, Richmond, CA) has become a workhorse for the Bears and continued seeing significant time at running back, as well as being the main kick returner.  This past Saturday, Langford returned five kickoffs for a total of 169 yards.  For the second straight week, Langford returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown.  In addition, he had 65 yards rushing, giving him 234 all-purpose yards for the game.

The Bears close out their non-conference schedule Saturday with their third straight road game - this one to Benedict College for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.  The Bears open their home schedule on September 24 when they take on Elizabeth City State at 2:00 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
