SHAW
TRACK & FIELD TEAMS MAKE SCHOOL HISTORY
AT PENN RELAYS
Philadelphia, PA
– The Shaw University Men’s
and Women’s Track & Field teams combined to make
school history at the 2008 Penn Relays.
On the women’s side, the 4 x 100 meters
Relay Team finished 83rd out of 85 teams with a time
of 52.46 and the 4 x 200 meters Relay Team finished in the final
spot at 46th with a time of 1:50.44. Furthermore, the
4 x 400 meters Relay Team finished 79th out of 83rd
with a time of 4:08.24 and the Sprint Medley Team finished in
the final spot at 40th with a time of 4:30.31. In the
event of shot put, senior
Persis Brown (Spring Lake, NC / Social Work) finished
29th out of 75 competitors with a distance of 35 – 11
¼ . All-CIAA, Brown is the first individual participant in
school history!
On the men’s side, the 4 x 100 meters
Relay Team finished 67th out of 80 teams with a time
of 43.67 as the 4 x 200 meters Relay Team was unable to finish
due to the drop of their baton. Furthermore, the Sprint Medley
Team finished 40th out of 50 teams with a time of
3:41.18. Making school history was made as the 4 x 400 meters
Relay Team finished with a time of 3:24.82; the institution’s
first ever track and field bronze plaque. Members of the awarded
4 x 400 meters Relay Team include junior
Vitalis Wekheye (Namable, Kenya
/ Biology), sophomore
Nuri Hasan (Cleveland, OH /
Business Administration), junior
Clinton Rogers (Clinton, MD /
Kinesiotherapy), and freshman
Terry Grey (Hampton, VA /
Undecided).

SHAW SCORES THIRD & FIFTH
IN VSU MID-WEEK TRACK CHALLENGE

– Petersburg, VA – The
Shaw University Men’s & Women’s
Track teams traveled to the campus of Virginia State
University as they hosted a Mid-Week Challenge.
The Women’s Track team
tallied 104.50 points for a third place finish as the Men’s Track
team finished in fifth place with 65.50 points.

Visit Homeless Shelter
March 29, 2008 – Raleigh,
NC –Following two days of competition at the Adidas Raleigh Relays
hosted by North Carolina State University, the men and women’s track teams
of Shaw University carried the true spirit of sportsmanship over onto one of
their community service projects. Following their post-game meal, they made
one important and deliberate stop. They delivered boxed lunches to the
Men’s Homeless Shelter on South Wilmington Street.

WOMEN’S TRACK TAKE THIRD
AT L.T.W. INVITATIONAL MEET
March 22, 2008 – Durham, NC –
The Shaw University Men’s & Women’s Track Team visited the campus of North
Carolina Central University to compete in the LeRoy T. Walker Invitational
Meet. Although the meet was not officially scored, both teams finished in
third place in regards to their awarded combined 18 competition medals; of
which two (2) were gold, nine (9) were silver, and seven (7) were bronze.

Men and Women’s Outdoor Track
Set for Season Opener
Raleigh ,
NC
– The Men and Women’s Outdoor Track Teams of Shaw
University are set to take stride in the season opener
in the UNCW Seahawk Invitational on the beautiful campus
of UNC-Wilmington on Friday, March 14th at
11:00 a.m. and on Saturday, March 15th at
10:00 a.m.
H ead Coach William
Montague stated, “This is our first meet since November
7th and the team is very excited about this
competition. We are trying to stay healthy and looking
for great performances from our athletes.”

Shaw
participate in Braves Track & Field Classic
PEMBROKE, N.C. –
Shaw University took part in the 2007 Braves Track & Field Classic at the
Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday afternoon. Shaw placed 36 athletes in the top
five on both the Men’s and Women’s side during the events at UNC Pembroke.
Other institutions participating were: Coker College, Fayetteville State
University, Francis Marion University, Methodist College, UNC Pembroke and
St. Andrews College all took part in the event.
