2009 Women's Cross Country Looks to Veterans for a Banner Year The Shaw University's Women's Cross Country team returns five of its top seven runners from the team that finished third at last year's Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships. Team MVP Donchelle Florence was the Lady Bears top finisher in five races, and is expected to improve on that form in 2009. Head Coach William Montague also expects leadership from All-CIAA 2007 selection Ashley Ligon, as well as veterans Ashley Bledsoe, Shareka Mitchell, Chloe Frame, Tairra Gaines, Joi Briscoe and Delilah Badgett. Newcomer Raychelle Johnson will add to an already deep team that includes Ashley Clement, Jerrica Johnson, and Cherell Williams.
Men Finish 6th; Women 8th at HBCU Challenge
The cross country teams finish well in the HBCU event which drew a large field. Willie Stanley finished tops among the Bear runners, while Donchelle Florence and Raychelle Johnson finished a second apart to lead the Lady Bears.
