SHAW TENNIS READY FOR REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
INDIANAPOLIS - (May 6, 2008)
The Men’s Tennis Team of Shaw University
has been chosen as one of twelve
competing institutions by the NCAA
Division II Men’s and Women’s Tennis
Committee for the 2008 Regional Tennis
Tournament.
Led by ninth year Head Coach Sunday Enitan, the four time CIAA Champions will travel to Savannah, Georgia and face the Peach Belt’s Armstrong Atlantic State for the first round of play. Competition will begin Thursday, May 8th at a pre-selected tournament site.

Raleigh, NC – (May 5, 2008) The CIAA office has announced the spring sports 2008 CIAA Coaches of the Year. For the fifth consecutive year, Sunday Enitan of Shaw University has been announced as the Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year. Coach Enitan led the CIAA powerful Bears to the Men’s conference title this season and continued play in the NCAA Division II Men’s Tennis Post-Season. This is his 4th Back to Back Championship in the Men's field. The Shaw Bears finished the regular season as an undefeated squad in conference play 4-0, 9-0, 11-5.
Congratulations are extended to Coach Enitan from the entire Shaw University Family for his continued and remarkable excellence!
MEN’S TENNIS SHUTOUT SAINT PAUL’S

The
Shaw University Men’s
Tennis team totaled 18 straight won matches
in their back-to-back battle with the Tigers of Saint
Paul’s College. Between both games, the Bears were
credited with serving 8 – 0 shutouts in 14 of the 18
matches; with the remaining four wins being classified
as wins by default. Shaw was victorious in game one and
game two by a score of 9 – 0. Men’s Tennis now has a
record of 11 – 5 Overall and 9 – 0 CIAA.

April 8, 2008 – Hampton, VA – The Shaw University Men’s Tennis team swept all tennis awards this week. Junior Alexandra Lord-Andrade (pictured top left) (6 – 1 / 155 / Montreal, Canada / Recreation) was named Player of the Week as he played #1 Singles to serve shutouts in three games as well as secure wins in his last four matches. Freshman Kalada Kienka (pictured top right) (6 -3 / 160 / Lagos, Nigeria / Computer Science) was named Rookie of the Week as he played #4 singles to serve shutouts in four singles and in three doubles.
Alum and former standout tennis titan Coach Sunday Enitan was selected as the Coach of the Week as he has led the Bears to capture their first CIAA Western Division title as they remain undefeated in conference play.

In the singles competition, Shaw served 6 – 0, 6 – 0 shutouts in five out of six matches. The Bears athletic dominance carried over into the doubles competition as Shaw won the first two matches 8 – 0 and the final doubles match 8 – 1.

SHAW TENNIS COMPETES IN CIAA ROUND-UP
March 14, 16, 2008 – Petersburg, VA – The
Shaw University Men’s and Women’s Tennis Team made their way to the
campus of Virginia State University to compete in the CIAA Round-up.
The Men’s Team swept up two victories with a 9 – 0 win over the
Virginia Union University Panthers on March 14th and a 9 – 0 triumph
over the Trojans of Virginia State University on March 16th. The
Women’s Team tallied one win and one loss as they defeated the Lady
Panthers of Virginia Union University 7 – 0 on March 14th, but
dropped a loss to the Lady Trojans of Virginia State University, 7 –
2, on March 16th.

Shaw Clinches Its Third CIAA Men's Tennis Championship Crown

PETERSBURG, VA – Shaw claimed the 2007 CIAA Men's Tennis Championship title for the third straight year, denying Johnson C. Smith a shot at the league crown. Shaw scored a 58 point victory on the campus of Virginia State University on Saturday afternoon. The Bears also received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. More

Ilesanmi Named Men’s Tennis Player of Year as Bears Claim Eastern Division Title

Petersburg, VA - The Bears of Shaw University have done it yet again, as they claim the 2007 Eastern Division regular season title. Shaw finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-6 and 11-1 record in conference play during the regular season. ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC STOPS SU BEARS IN NCAA TENNIS
(5/4/06).
The No. 7-ranked Armstrong Atlantic men's
tennis team picked up a 5-0 win over Shaw in the first round of the 2006
Mid-Atlantic Region in Savannah on Thursday afternoon, earning a berth in
Friday's championship match.

The Pirates, who advanced to the NCAA DII semifinals last season, won all three doubles matches then got singles wins from senior David Secker and junior Taavo Roos. Roos defeated Olwaseyi Bamigbade at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Secker defeated Olayiwola Enitan, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles. AASU improves to 17-6 on the season, while CIAA champion Shaw suffered its first loss of the campaign, finishing its season with a 17-1 mark. (More)
SHAW TENNIS TEAMS SET FOR MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL PLAY
(4/29/06). Last weekend (April 23) the Shaw University men’s and women’s tennis teams won the 2006 CIAA Tennis Championships and received the automatic bid for the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. The NCAA has released the pairings and tournament sites for the national tournament and both teams will travel to Savannah, GA. The tournament dates are Thursday, May 4 and Friday May 5.(More)
