Top News

Shaw Track & Field Compete in CIAA Championships
 
Petersburg, VA - (April 21, 2009) The men and women's Outdoor Track and Field teams of Shaw University competed in the Spring Sports Championships against other CIAA schools at Virginia State University.  The men's team finished 5th overall with 43 points and the women's team finished 8th with 19.75 points overall.  Saint Augustine's College took both titles in the Championship events. Results below.
 
The top finisher for both teams was Donchelle Florence who finished 3rd in the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 12:04.65; Tiarra Green finished 8th running with sore feet with a time of 13:33.23. She showed the heart of a true champion.  The women's team finished fourth in the 4x100 Meter Run with a time of 48.73.  The women's 4x400 Meter Relay team finished fourth with a time of 4:03.94; Delilah Badgett, Chloe Frame, Monique Green and Raychelle Johnson.  Frame and Badgett finished the 100 Meter Dash 6th (12.89) and 7th (13.74) respectively.  Green finished the 400 Meter Dash in 5th at 58.54.  Ashley Ligon finished 6th in 800 Meter Run at 2:31.98. Shareka Mitchell finished 100 Meter Hurdles 6th at 15.46; Frame finished Women's Long Jump in 5th with 4.89m.  Joi Briscoe finished 7th in Women's Triple Jump with 10.49m.
 
The men's events included Willie Stanley at 6th in the 800 Meter Run with 1:56.57.  Craig Perkins finished 11th in the 1500 Meter Run at 4:28.40. Perkins also finished 5th in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 18:11.45. The 4x400 Meter Relay finished 5th and included Nuri Hassan, Clinton Rogers, Carrington Jones and Eric Simmons at 3:20.85. Dontrell Brennan finished 6th in the Shot Put with 13.14m and Christopher Harris finished the Javelin Throw 6th with 43.17m.
