Shaw Cross Country Teams Compete in NCAA DII Atlantic Regionals

Raleigh, NC – (November 10, 2008) The Men and Women’s Cross Country teams of Shaw University competed in the NCAA DII Atlantic Regionals at Cooper’s Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, PA on Saturday, November 8th.

The men’s team finished the 5K with a total score of 734 points and a total time of 3:45:54.  The team members finished as follows:

Shaw Cross Country Teams Finish 3rd at 2008 CIAA Championship

 

Raleigh, NC - (October 23, 2008) The men Cross Country team of Shaw University finished third at the 2008 CIAA Cross Country Championship at Wake Med Soccer Field in Cary, NC.

 

The men's team also finished third with a total of 91 points behind first place Virginia State with 42 points and Bowie State with 58 points.  The top finisher for Shaw was Kenny Britt, a member of the 2008 All CIAA team at sixth place with a total time of 28:24.7.  Craig Perkins, also a member of the 2008 All CIAA team finished seventh with a total time of 28:28.1.  The rest of the pack included Vitalis Wekheye at 25th with a total time of 31:02.8; Clinton Rogers finished 26th at 31:04.0; Nuri Hasan finished 27th at 31:05.3; Christopher Harris finished 35th at 32:04.9 and Lamar Shearin finished at 48th with a total time of 35:12.2. 


William Montague, Head Coach stated, “We ran much better today and we came home with hardware from the 2008 conference championship.  We wanted to finish higher than we did but our team competed against tough opponents.  I am extremely proud of my kids and the future is very bright for Shaw University Cross Country.”

FINISH SIXTEENTH IN 2007 NCAA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

November 3, 2007 Wingate, N.C. – The Shaw University Men & Women Cross Country team traveled to Wingate University to compete in the 2007 NCAA Regional Cross Country Championships. Seventeen year veteran Head Coach William Montague led both teams through a tough and intense competition to finish sixteenth as the women experienced a course of 3.72 miles (6.00 kilometers) and the men experienced a course of 6.20 miles (10.00 kilometers). More

- The Shaw University Men's Cross Country Team worked day in and day out to be the undisputed and proud Runner-ups in the 2007 Cross Country Championships. Congratulations to Head Coach William Montague for their accomplished feat. The seventeen year veteran and his tough troop were recently awarded with a placement position in the Division II Men's Cross Country Regional Rankings.

October 31, 2007 - Raleigh, NC - It can almost be declared as an "American tradition" for immeasurable amounts of sweet treats to be purchased and distributed on the last day of October, universally referred to as Halloween. Everyone, from little kids to big kids, is anxious to have their hands or empty containers filled with sugar coated sweets. Well, this year the Men & Women Cross Country decided that "it was better to give than receive."

October 18, 2007 Cary, NC Around eleven o’clock in the mid-day, while many individuals pulled out of the parking lots of their chosen professions to pick-up their pre-ordered lunch, the Men & Women of Shaw University’s Cross Country Teams pulled out onto rugged terrain to start their final footrace of the 2007 season at S.A.S Park. After conference officials calculated all point totals, the Shaw University Men finished as CIAA Championship Runner-ups and the Shaw University Women stepped away with third place.More
 

Bears Finish 7th  in the 2006 raleigh xc invitational

The SU Bears finished 7th out of 7 schools at the 2006 Raleigh XC Invitational  which was held at the SAS Soccer Park in Cary, NC, on September 15, 2006. The top finisher was Marc Allen who finished 17th overall with a time of 17:13.00. The Bears finished with 158 points. The Bears accumulated the same amount of points as Hampton University which was placed 6th.  The Bears will be in action again on September 23, 2006 at the NC Collegiate Championship in Greensboro, NC.

Bears Finish 6th  in Unc Pembroke Invitational

The SU Bears finished 6th out of 6 schools in the 35th Annual Men’s UNC Pembroke Invitational at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton NC. The top finisher was Marc Allen who finished 6th overall with a time of 28:34.83. The Bears finished with 109 points. The Bears will be in action again on September 15, 2006 at the Raleigh Adidas Invitational in Cary, NC.(More)

 

Season opener (UNC Pembroke invitational on 09/09/06)

This will be the season opening event for both the men and women and both have four of their top runners returning.  The men finished second in last years CIAA championship race and are expected to be in the hunt again, while the ladies will have to get instant help from their youth.

 

The men are led by All-CIAA performer Corey Hargrove (So/Newport News, VA) and will be joined by Marc Allen (Jr/Forestville, MC), John Kornegay (So-Detroit, MI) and Troy Jiggetts (So-Richmond, VA).  Adding to that experience will be Vitalis Wekheye (So-Nambale, Kenya), Clarence Presley (Fr-Pompano Beach, FL) and red shirt Jervon Smith (Fr-Charlotte, NC) will give the Bears needed depth.
