Shaw participate in Braves Track & Field Classic
PEMBROKE, N.C. – Shaw University took part in the 2007 Braves Track & Field Classic at the Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday afternoon. Shaw placed 36 athletes in the top five on both the Men’s and Women’s side during the events at UNC Pembroke. Other institutions participating were: Coker College, Fayetteville State University, Francis Marion University, Methodist College, UNC Pembroke and St. Andrews College all took part in the event.
The Bears will be backing action when Shaw travels to Ettrick, VA to take part in the Trojan Season Opener hosted by Virginia State University on Wednesday, March 21st. For more information contact the Shaw University office of Sports Information at mwilliams@shawu.edu.
Notables on the men’s side…
Robert Henson III placed first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.42 after winning the 100m dash he would record a time of 23.05 in the 200m dash to come in second. Henson would finish the day by jumping 6.30m in the long jump to clam fifth place.
Anthony Frost placed forth in the 200m dash with a time of 23.18 after which he recorded a time of 52.62 to earn third place in the 400m dash.
Corey Hargrove came in forth place in the 800m dash with a time of 2:09.21.
Paul Graham took home first place in the High Jump clearing a high of 6ft (1.82m).
Ricardo Safford came in second in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 37.35m.
Travis Kilgore took forth in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 30.37m.
Corey Hargrove would finish fifth in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 28.24m.
Shaw’s 4X100m relay team placed forth with a time of 44.44
Shaw’s 4X400m relay (A Team) came in forth place with a time of 3:34.55.
Shaw’s 4X400m relay (B Team) took fifth place with a time of 3:57.86.
Notables on the women’s side…
Weahdee Bildee placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 13.38 and she jumped 4.64m (15’2) in the Long Jump.
Cherell Williams recorded a time of 13.47 to come in forth in the 100m dash as well as dropping a 28.56 to come in forth in the 200m dash.
Donyelle Murdock came in second in the 400m dash with a time of 65.97
Ashley Bledsoe dropped a time of 2:50.84 to take fifth place in the 800m run.
Yashica Short took second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.39 and she came in third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 74.14. Smith also took home third place in the High Jump with a mark of 1.47m (4”10).
Joi Briscoe ran a time of 73.98 in the 400m hurdles to come in second and she jumped 9.38m (32”3) to take first place in the Triple Jump.
Shaw’s 4X100m relay team came in second with a time of 53.89.
The 4X400m relay team ran a time of 4:20.68 to take first place.
Khamiya Smith scored a mark of 1.47m (4”10) to give her second place in the high jump.
Persis Brown came in second in the Shot Put with a distance of 10.72m (35-02) and fifth in the Discus Throw with a distance of 30.45m. Shaw also took fifth place in the Javelin Throw with a toss of 27.64m.
Shaakira West took forth place in the Shot Put with a distance 9.96m and she took third in the Discus with a mark of 32.27m. West took third in the Javelin Throw as well with a distance of 30.76.
