Men to Play in Wilson, NC
The Shaw men's tennis team will not
participate in the
inaugural Legacy National Black College Tennis Tournament.
The tournament has been postponed until October of next
year. Instead, the team will play in the ITA Small College
Regional Championships to be held in Wilson, NC from Oct. 1 - 4
at Barton College. The Bears will be led by their top
returning player Kabiru Ibraham who won the number three CIAA
singles championship. He will be the team's number one
this season. Ricardo Munar is number two, Emmanual Ameh,
is number three, Daniel Sabogal, is number four, Olayiwola
enitan, is number five and number six will be Oluwaseyi
Bamigbade.

Men's Tennis to Participate in National Black College Tournament
The Shaw University men's tennis team
will be one of the eight teams invited to participate in the
inaugural Legacy National Black College Tennis Tournament to be
held at the local Jeff Adams Tennis Center October 1 through
October 4, 2004. The Bears have had tremendous success under
fifth year head coach Sunday Enitan, and thus were selected to
play in this prestigious tournament.
The tournament will showcase talent of the
premiere teams from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (CIAA), Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC),
Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and the
Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The top two teams from
each of the conferences will play each other in the four-day
extravaganza that include displays, educational activities and
job opportunities and the players will have the opportunity to
meet tennis celebrities.

Curtis, Enitan Receive Awards at Spring Meetings

coach Jacques Curtis and head men's and women's tennis coach
Sunday Enitan received Coach of the Year awards (Enitan received
award for men's tennis) at the annual CIAA Spring Meetings at
the Raleigh Crabtree Marriott.
Curtis led the Lady Bear to their second-straight CIAA
Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA South Atlantic
Regional. Enitan led the Shaw tennis team to the eastern
division crown and runner-up finish in the CIAA

Enitan Named Coach of the Year
Shaw head tennis coach Sunday Enitan
was named CIAA Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. Enitan led
the Bears to a 16-2 regular season record, 13-1 in the CIAA and
6-0 in the east. The Bears were runner-ups in this year's
CIAA Championships, falling to Johnson C. Smith by one point.
This is Enitan's second Coach of the Year
award. The Lagos, Nigeria native was also named Coach of
the Year in 2001.

Six Bears Named All-CIAA
Six of Shaw's
men's tennis players were named to the 2004 All-CIAA team.
Olayiwola
Enitan, Daniel Sabogal, Kabiru Ibrahim, Michael Oladele, Seyi
Bamigbade and Sahr Mondeh were all named to the team while
Kabiru Ibrahim was named Rookie of the Year.
Shaw
finished runner-ups in the CIAA Championships.

Men's Tennis Finishes Runner-ups in CIAA Tournament
CHARLOTTE - The
Johnson C. Smith men’s tennis team won its sixth consecutive
CIAA Men’s Tennis Championship, edging Shaw out by one point
for the second-straight year.
Shaw’s Kabiru Ibrahim, Daniel Sabogal and Olayiwola
Enitan won the number 3, 5 and 6 singles, but Johnson C.
Smith’s Michael White won the number one position on his way
to being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Justin
Stuckey won the number 2 position and Larry Holmes won the

Men's Tennis to Host J.C. Smith
Shaw will host Johnson C. Smith at
Biltmore Hills on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in a battle of the two
best teams in the CIAA. The women's teams will be in
action as well.
Seyi Bamigbade will play the number one for
Shaw and is undefeated on the season. He will be matched
up with the Golden Bulls' number one Michael White and this will
be a key match-up. But the key to the entire match could
come down to number one doubles play as Kabiru Ibrahim and
Michael Oladele of Shaw will take on White and Timothy Hunter of
Johnson C. Smith.
"If we win tomorrow that will give us a leg up in the CIAA
Championship," said Shaw head coach Sunday Enitan.

Crucial Wins by Shaw End Smith's CIAA Win Streak at 75
CHARLOTTE - With Michael Oladele and
Ricardo Mundar thwarting a stirring comeback by Michael White
and Tim Hunter who were down 6-2 in the eight game pro set at
number one by winning 9-8 (7-1) , the Bears who also won at
number two doubles with Kabiru Ibrahim and Daniel Sabogal
beating Justin Stuckey and Larry Holmes 8-5 won two of the three
doubles to gain a lead they would not relinquish. Frento Burton
and Jonathan Nettles won number three doubles 8-5 over Oluwaseyi
Bamigbade and Olayiwole Enitan.
White served notice that he may be the best
player in the CIAA with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Oladele at number
one . But Shaw won with Munar beating Stuckey at two 6-1, 6-0,
Ibrahim beating Hunter 6-3, 6-2 at three, Sabogal beating Burton
6-3, 6-0 at five and Enitan beatting Nettles 6-2, 7-5 at six to
win four of six singles.
Holmes beat Bamigbade 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at four.

Men's Tennis Loses in Championship
The Shaw men's tennis team lost in
the championship game of the 2003 CIAA Tennis Tournament
Championship game. Four points separated the Bears from
the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith, the tournament
champions. Winners for Shaw during singles competition
included Michael Oladele, Davie Immonite, John Agori and Samuel
Okaya. Agori continued his streak of having never lost a
match in CIAA play.
For the second-straight year, Michael Oladele
was named the tournaments Most Outstanding Player.
