Bears defeat Falcons 7-2 in Men’s Tennis Action

 

Raleigh, NC – The Bears of Shaw University bounced back after a tough 4-5 loss to the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University by defeating the Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College 7-2 in match play on Sunday.

 

Shaw won two of three doubles led by Ibukun Ilesanmi and Daniel Sabogal who defeated Roberson and Thompson 8-0. They were followed by Emmanuel Ameh and Mehdi Ben Cheikh who won 8-1 versus Hill and Wilson.  The Falcons won the third doubles match as Felder and Ruffin defeated Martin Faison and Sherron Leigh 8-5 in match play.

 

The Bears were better when it came to the singles matches as Shaw won five-of-five matches.  The only win for Saint Augustine’s came from Felder who defeated Leigh 6-3, and 6-2 in the fifth game.  Ilesanmi, Sabogal, Ben Cheikh, Ameh, and Faison won their matches in single play to carry Shaw on to a 7-2 victory over the Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College.

 

Shaw advances to 3-5 overall, 2-1 CIAA and will be back in action today at 3:00 pm as they take on the University of District of Columbia in Washington, DC.
