Bears fall 4-5 to J.C. Smith Men’s Tennis
Bears get First loss to Golden Bulls Since 2004
Raleigh, NC
- For the first time since March of 2004, the Bears of Shaw University
(2-5 overall, 0-1 CIAA) fell to the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith
University (9-6 overall, 4-0 CIAA) at home by a 5-4 count on Saturday.
Shaw only won one-of-three doubles with
Ibukun Ilesanmi
and Daniel Sabogal
beating Justin Stockey and Romar Douglas
9-7. The Golden Bulls got off to a good start by winning two of the
three double matches against the Bears.
Shaw and J.C. Smith split the singles winning three each. The Bears
would take numbers one, two, and four over the Golden Bulls. Ilesanmi
won the first one 6-7, 7-6 over Justin Stockey. Mehdi
Ben Cheikh defeated Aaron Hutcherson and Emmanuel Ameh
would go to three matches to gain a victory. Their wins gave the Bears
four points out of a possible nine over the Golden Bulls.
Jason Stuckey beat Daniel Sabogal in the clincher 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. In
the number five and six matches Russell McKoy and Frento Burton won out
6-0 against Sherron Leigh and Kory Walker.
The Bears drop to 2-5 overall. Next up for the Bears will be the Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College on March 11, at 1:00 p.m.
