The Shaw football team was named Team of the Year by CollegeSportsReport.com.  Shaw, in its second year of football in the NCAA, won the CIAA Championship and the Pioneer Bowl Championship with a win over Tuskegee, finishing the season 10-2.

Meanwhile, Chris Peavy received another award as he was named to the 2004 SBN All-America Black College team.  Peavy is one on five non-Division I players who will play in the Las Vegas All-American Classic in Las Vegas, NV on January 22.  The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net and pits 110 of the top athletes in the nation in an East vs. West format and the game has been dubbed "America's Largest College All-Star Football Game."

He, along with center Robert Rhodes, was also named to the CollegeSportsReport.com 2004 All-Division II team.  Rhodes is one of eight finalists for the Gene Upshaw Award for the best lineman offensive or defensive in Division II college football.

Talented free safety Torrance Nunnally was named to Don Hansen's All-Southeast first team, while Rhodes and running back Dion McIver were named to the second team.  Nunnally recorded 64 tackles, led the team with six interceptions and had eight pass break-ups.  McIver became Shaw's first 1,000-yard back recording 1,168 yards, five 100-yard rushing games and eight touchdowns.
