The Shaw football team was named Team of the
Year by CollegeSportsReport.com. Shaw, in its
second year of football in the NCAA, won the CIAA Championship
and the Pioneer Bowl Championship with a win over Tuskegee,
finishing the season 10-2.
Meanwhile, Chris Peavy received another award as he was named to
the 2004 SBN All-America Black College team. Peavy is one
on five non-Division I players who will play in the Las Vegas
All-American Classic in Las Vegas, NV on January 22. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net and pits 110 of the
top athletes in the nation in an East vs. West format and the
game has been dubbed "America's Largest College All-Star
Football Game."
He, along with center Robert Rhodes, was also
named to the CollegeSportsReport.com 2004 All-Division II
team. Rhodes is one of eight finalists for the Gene Upshaw
Award for the best lineman offensive or defensive in Division II
college football.
Talented free safety Torrance Nunnally was
named to Don Hansen's All-Southeast first team, while Rhodes and
running back Dion McIver were named to the second team.
Nunnally recorded 64 tackles, led the team with six
interceptions and had eight pass break-ups. McIver became
Shaw's first 1,000-yard back recording 1,168 yards, five
100-yard rushing games and eight touchdowns.
