The Shaw University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has finalized agreements with four additional stations  on the Shaw Bear Sports Radio Network, bringing the total number of stations currently on the network to nine.  WSHA, Shaw’s 50K-watt radio station,  WKTE in King, NC, which covers the Triad, WRCS in Ahoskie and WELS in Kinston are the newest additions to the network.    WDEX in Charlotte, WFAY ESPN Radio in Fayetteville, WEED in Rocky Mount, WPMH in  Hampton Roads/Richmond  and WJRO in  Baltimore/Washington, DC, are already a part of the network.

“We are  pleased to have added  four more stations to the network and particularly our own station, WSHA,” said Donal Ware, assistant athletic director for sports information/marketing.  “WSHA is a strong force in the Triangle community and it has aired Shaw football for the last two years and Shaw basketball for at least the last three years.

“This is a great benefit  for everyone affiliated with Shaw University and for sports fans in general.  As a member school of  the CIAA, Shaw football can be heard throughout  CIAA school locales.  Fans may listen to  Shaw football from Rock Hill, SC to Baltimore, MD.…we may even be able to extend it beyond that.  We feel fortunate because we have a true radio network.”

During the course of the football season, Shaw games can also be heard on WCIE Fayetteville and WRJR Portsmouth, VA, in the event of a programming conflict with WPMH and WFAY ESPN Radio, respectively.

The network will broadcast in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.  Shaw will reach a potential six to eight million people during each broadcast.
The network is set to broadcast all 10 of Shaw’s regular season football games as well as potential post-season games.   The  department will also consider broadcasting Shaw basketball games.

For more information or to advertise on the network contact the Shaw University Office of Sports Information at (919) 546-8279.
