The Shaw University Department of
Intercollegiate Athletics announces that it has completed agreements with
five radio stations, which will be a part of the Shaw Bear Sports Radio
Network. The stations are WDEX in Charlotte, WFAY ESPN Radio in
Fayetteville, WEED in Rocky Mount, WPMH in the Hampton Roads/Richmond areas
and WJRO in the Baltimore/Washington area.
“We are pleased to have these radio
stations on board for our first venture into radio networking,” said Donal
Ware, assistant athletic director for sports information and marketing.
“These stations have made a commitment to Shaw athletics as we look
forward to a successful athletic year.
We are especially pleased that or alumni, students, fans and
supporters will be able to follow the games via the Shaw Bear Sports Radio
Network.”
The department hopes to come to an
agreement with stations in the Triangle, Triad, Goldsboro and Eastern North
Carolina within the next week.
During the course of the football
season, Shaw games can also be heard on WCIE Fayetteville and WRJR
Portsmouth, VA, in the event of a programming conflict with WPMH and WFAY
ESPN Radio, respectively.
The network will broadcast all 10 of
Shaw’s regular season football games as well as potential post-season
games this season and the department will look into expanding into
basketball season as well.
As of right now, the network will broadcast in five
states (South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania)
and the District of Columbia and has the potential to reach 6-8 million
people during each broadcast.
