The Bears will face off against Fayetteville
State on November 6 in the championship game, the team they had
14-0, trying to put them away and ended up losing 24-14. I
know the Bears are looking forward to this and I'm sure
Fayetteville State is as well. The Broncos are not really
worried about who they will face, just worried about the fact
that they are in the game for the third-straight year and have a
chance to do something special. But the Broncos should
fear these Bears. Won of the hottest teams in the country,
the Bears season looked doomed after losing to St. Augustine's
34-6 and then to the afformentioned Broncos on September
25. Since then, the Bears have reeled off four-straight
victories and have put themselves in position for the
re-match. The Broncos to are hot having won five-straight
game after losing to the Trojans 19-3 and their current winning
streak starting with their victory over the Bears.
Although the Bears are in the championship
game, the season is by no means over. Shaw should have won
this game at least a 28-7score, but could not score on two first
and goal situations. The Bear defense of course is number
one in the country and they say defense wins championships, but
the Bears are going to need more points on the board. The
Bears rolled up 359 yards of total offense today and Jermonty
Kimbrough easily had his best outing of the season completing
over 50 percent of his passes and not throwing an interception,
while Dion McIver rushed for over 100 yards for the fourth time
this year. But Shaw managed only 14 points.
And lest we not forget that the Thorobreds
will be in town next Saturday. If Shaw wants to go to the
playoffs, then a win over Kentucky State will certainly enhance
its chances. Kentucky State is 7-1 and is vying for the
SIAC title. In my opinion, this will be the toughest
opponent the Bears will face since bringing football back in
2002. The Thorobreds sit in the eighth position right now
in the NCAA South region poll. Undoubtedly, the Bears will
at least sit where Virginia State is sitting right now which is
12th in the region, when the poll is released early next week.
Of course the Bears have a lot of work to do
these next couple of weeks so I will keep you up to date as to
the happenings. As always GO BEARS!!!
