The Shaw University football coaches
and their families have initiated a program to help support the
Salvation Army. Head
coach Deondri Clark, associate head coach Fred T. Farrier,
defensive coordinator Kelvin Smith, assistant head coach Wayne
McLean and defensive backs coach Buddy Crutchfield donated about
250 pounds of clothing to the South Person Street Salvation Army
in Raleigh on Wednesday. This
was the first of several clothing drives the coaches will
support during the year.
“Just being in downtown Raleigh seeing
people with needs on a daily basis, it was a perfect opportunity to give back
to the community,” said Farrier, who organized the program.
“We have a lot more planned with the Salvation Army and we are just
really excited to be able to give back.”
The
coaches have agreed to participate in other programs throughout the year,
including being food servers in the soup line, food distribution, and
volunteering time in the emergency shelter for women and children, to provide
them with positive interaction with male figures in the community.
