KNOCK-OUT BLUE BEARS 49-27
The Shaw University Bears scored 35 unanswered points in two and a half quarters and cruised to a 49-27 win over the Blue Bears of Livingstone College. The win improved the Bears to 1-1 in the CIAA and 3-2 over-all, while the Blue Bears dropped to 0-2 and 0-5.
Junior quarterback Jermonty Kimbrough (5’11, 186/Mobil, AL) led the Bear attack completing 14 of 21 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns. On the Bears first possession of the game, Kimbrough connected with Daniel Jackson (6’4, 190/SO-Lake Wales, FL) on a 14 yard touchdown pass at the 11:59 mark of the first quarter, that completed a six play 80 yard drive. Jackson had three receptions for 78 yards on that drive and finished the afternoon with a career best, four receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
The Blue Bears tied the score at 7-7 when Jason Mitchell (5’11, 175,QB/Durham, NC) connected with Jeremy Grier (6’1, 205,WR/Huntersville, NC) on a three yard pass with five seconds left in the quarter, but it was all Bears after that. The Bears had scoring runs from Reginald Price (6’0, 190/JR-Winston Salem, NC) (2 and 7yds) and Dion McIver (6’0, 208/RB-Lillington, NC) (47yds) and took a 28-7 lead into halftime. Devin Chatman’s (5’10, 180/JR-Greensboro, NC) 20 yard blocked punt return with 8:51 left in the 3rd gave the Bears 35-7 lead. Daniel Jackson’s 32 yard touchdown pass reception and Byron Cary’s (5’10, 210, SO/FB-Havelock, NC) six yard reception finished the Bears scoring for the afternoon.
The Bears will travel to Bowie, Maryland next week to face the Bulldogs of Bowie State in a big CIAA Eastern Division match-up.
