I had a chance to go out to practice
yesterday. The guys are looking good and are fired up for
the game on Saturday. They will leave today around 1:00
p.m. or so to go to Petersburg, VA. They'll check into the
hotel about 3:30, get settled and leave to go to practice at
5:00 p.m. They will practice (walk through) for about 45
minutes, come back to the hotel, change then head out to
dinner. They will have about 30-minute offensive and
defensive team meetings, be in their rooms by 10:30 and in the
bed by 11:00 p.m. The guys will wake up at
8:00 a.m. on Saturday, eat breakfast at 9:00 and the buses will
leave for Virginia State at 10:30 a.m.
Again this is a very exciting time. If the Bears win
they'll be in the CIAA Championship on November 6 in
Durham. There will be a caravan leaving from Raleigh
tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. If you can't make it to the game,
you can listen to it on the Shaw Bear Sports Radio Network
beginning with the pre-game show at 1:00 p.m.
Congratulations goes out to offensive coordinator Fred Farrier, who was selected to participate in the NCAA’s Coaches Academy. This is a big deal, because he was one of 20 coaches selected out of 300 applicants and he was one of only three from a non-Division I-A school. The women's cross country team finished runner-ups in yesterday's CIAA Championships out at SAS Park in Cary, while the men finished fourth. Patricia Beckham, Lisa Stewart and Maurice Styles, Jr. were named All-CIAA for the second-straight year after finishing in the top 10.
Hopefully, I'll see some of you at the game tomorrow. GO BEARS!!!!!
