Bears to Play in Pioneer Bowl
Despite a 9-2 record and a CIAA
Championship victory over Fayetteville State, the Shaw football
team was not invited to participate in the national playoffs and
thus are scheduled to participate in the Pioneer Bowl against
Tuskegee of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on
December 4
The Pioneer Bowl is the only NCAA sanctioned Division II bowl game and pits the CIAA Champion against the SIAC Champion. The first game was played in 1997 and the last four games have been played in Atlanta. This will be the first year the game will be played in Mobile, AL.
Tuskegee, who is currently ranked #18 in the country, will represent the SIAC since it chooses not to participate in the national playoffs.
This will be Shaw's first appearance in a bowl game since appearing in the Iodine Bowl in 1948 when they fell to Allen 6-3.
