Shaw To Compete In NCAA Regionals
The Shaw men's cross country team will compete in the
regional championships this weekend at SAS Park in Cary, NC. The men have been
ranked in the top ten during each of the previous two seasons. Last season
freshman Maurice Styles finished 13th to earn a spot on the All-
Region team, this season he looks to do the same for his sophomore campaign.
The race begins at 10:00 pm.

Bears Finish in third Place
CARY , NC - The Shaw men's cross country team
finished in third place in the annual CIAA Cross Country Championships held at
SAS Soccer Park. The Bears finished with 98 points. Maurice Styles
finished in the top 10 and was named All-CIAA.

Bears Prepare For Championships
The Shaw
men's cross country team is preparing for the CIAA Championships, which will be
held at the SAS soccer complex in Cary, NC. Last season the Bears were the
runner-ups for the second year in a row. The men are trying to keep the streak
alive as the Bears have not finished lower than third place in over seven
years. Recently the Bears competed at the NC Collegiate Championships in
Greenville, N.C. finishing sixth.
The
CIAA championships will be held on Thursday October 24th starting at 9:00 A.M.

Bears Defeat Eagles
Shaw men's cross country defeated North Carolina
Central University in a dual meet this weekend at Forest Hills Park in Durham.
Maurice Styles was the top finisher for the men as he took first place with a
time of 26:25. Jeff Jackson and Charles Simms finished second and third.

Bears Finish Fourth at Hagan Stone
The men's cross country team finished in fourth place
this weekend at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro,NC.
Leading the way for the bears was Maurice
Styles Jr. and Jeffrey Jackson. Both finishing the meet in under 30 minutes.
Jackson finished the race in 15th place with a time of 29:48 and Styles
finished right behind him in 16th place with a time of 29:55. Charles Simms was
the third runner for the Bears to finish with a time of 31:56 to finish in 19th
place.
The Bears will run again this Saturday in
Durham at the NCCU Eagle Classic.

Styles and Jackson among top runners in CIAA
Maurice Styles Jr. and Jeffrey Jackson, the top two
runners on the bears cross country team are among the top runners in the
conference.
Styles, a sophomore, is currently ranked
8th in the conferences as of October 1st with a time of 28:15, which he ran at
the Pembroke Invitational on September 13th. Last season Styles was an All-CIAA
performer and also All-Region.
Jackson, who is a junior, has been one of
the top runners on the bears team every season since joining the team in 2001.
He is presently ranked 12th in the conference with a time of 28:53 which
he ran at the Pembroke Invitational also.
Styles and Jackson will be in action
along with the bears this Saturday at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro, NC.

Bears Compete At SAS Park
The Shaw Cross Country team competed at the Great
American Cross Country Festival at the SAS Park in Cary, NC.
The Bear, who finished 14th overall, were
led by Maurice Styles Jr. who ran a time of 29:49.3 to take 27th place. Jeffery
Jackson was the second finisher for the Bears with a time of 31:56.9 which was
good enough for 70th place. Charles Simms finished in 80th place with a time of
32:19.9
The Bears will be in action again this
weekend as they travel to Greensboro, NC to compete at Hagan Stone Park.

Bears Finish Second
The Shaw men's cross country team finished second at the Shaw Invitational
Sunday at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Garner.
The Bears were led
by Maurice Styles Jr. who finished 4th with a time of 28:56. Jeffrey Jackson
was the next runner to finish for the Bears with a time of 31:01 to take 6th
place. Jackson was followed to the finish by Charles Simms who took 7th place
with a time of 31:34.
The Bears will
next be in action Friday at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary,
NC.

Shaw University to Host Invitational
The Shaw University
men's and women's cross country teams will play host this
weekend at the Shaw University Cross Country Invitational
held at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Garner, NC.
The
meet, which is held annually, will feature some of the top
runners in the CIAA conference. Teams that are scheduled to
compete include Livingstone College, North Carolina Central
University, who won the men's race last year, St. Paul's
College, and Shaw University ,who is the defending women's
champion of last year.
The
race is scheduled to start at 3:00pm on Sunday .

Bears Finish Strong At Pembroke Invitational
The Shaw university Men's cross
country team finished 5th at the UNC-Pembroke Invitational held
in Lumberton , NC this past weekend.
Maurice Styles Jr , who
has been on the injury list for a couple weeks returned to take
7th place in the seven team meet. Styles finished the race with
a time of 28:15. He was followed by Jeffrey Jackson who finished
the race in 18:53 to earn the 14th position overall. Styles and
Jackson both received awards for their performances.
The Bears will next be in
action this weekend as they host the Shaw Invitational.

Shaw Men Compete in Cross Town Classic
The Bears cross country team finished third at
the cross town Eagle Trail Classic held at Durham's Duke Forrest Park this
past weekend.
Jeffrey Jackson was the
the top runner for the Bears finishing 7th with a time of 23:38.
Charles Simms finished in second for the Bears taking 9th place
with a time of 24:19. Freshman Matt Thompson and Jamel Mack
finished 15th and 16th with times of 28:52 and 29:28, respectively. Demtrius Hart was the 5th runner for the Bears
finishing 17th overall with a time of 31:14.
The Bears are running
without top runner Maurice Styles Jr., who was an all-conference
and all-region performer last season, due to illness.
The team will next compete
this weekend in the Pembroke Invitational at UNC-Pembroke.

Shaw Cross Country Gets Ready for Upcoming Season
Shaw
University men's cross country team is trying to keep the streak
alive. For the past nine seasons they have not finished lower
than third place in the CIAA.
This
season the Bears will look for sophomore Maurice Styles to lead
the pack. Styles finished 14th in the region last season
to earn all-region honors and was a member of the all-conference
team. Junior Jeffrey Jackson and sophomore Charles Simms
along with Styles will be the top three runners on the Bears
team. Jackson has been a solid performer for the Bears the
last two seasons. Last year he was injured for most of the
season. Simms did not compete last season at a 100 percent due
to illness, but is healthy and ready to roll this season.
The
difference between this year's team and last years team is
depth. With the loss of four solid runners the Bears will look
for senior Lloyd Knight, junior Demetruis Hart , newcomers
Jamel Mack, Pierre Lassiter, and Kevin Cook to fill that
void.
The
Bears open up the season on Saturday at the Cross Town Classic
which will held at Duke Forest Park.

Cross Country Teams Prepare for NCAA Southeast Regionals
Shaw University's men's and women's
cross country teams will be in action this Saturday at the NCAA
Southeast Regionals, at Fred G. Bond Park in Cary, NC. The
Lady Bears, winners of the 2002 CIAA Cross Country Championships
are ranked sixth in the NCAA Regional Polls, their highest
ranking ever. The Lady Bears will rely on All-CIAA
performers Tania Coleman, Patricia Beckham, Eureka Thompson and
Lisa Stewart. The women's 6,000 meter race begins at 10:30
a.m.
On the men's side the Bears, 2002
CIAA Cross Country Champion runner-ups return to the NCAA
Southeast regional for the second year in a row. The Bears
are currently ranked number nine in the NCAA Regional
Poll. The Bears look to improve on last year's 13th place
finish. All-CIAA performers Maurice Styles, Jr., De-Sean
Williams, along with Jeffrey Jackson, Charles Simms, Michael
Hendrixs and Tiotta Gills will give the Bears a lift. The
10,000 meter race begins at 11:30 a.m. Directions

Shaw Women, Win CIAA Championships, Men Finish Second
GREENSBORO, NC
- For the second time in three seasons, the Shaw Lady Bears won the CIAA
Cross-Country Championship women’s title with a low score of 33, while the
St. Augustine’s Falcons won the men’s title for the second straight season
with a low score of 26. Go To Story
