MEN & WOMEN CROSS COUNTRY TRICK - OR - TREAT
INTO COMMUNITY
October 31, 2007 - Raleigh,
NC -
It can almost be declared as an "American tradition" for immeasurable
amounts of sweet treats to be purchased and distributed on the last day of
October, universally referred to as Halloween. Everyone, from little kids to
big kids, is anxious to have their hands or empty containers filled with
sugar coated sweets. Well, this year the Men & Women Cross Country decided
that "it was better to give than receive."
Head Coach William Montague led his talented male and female
student-athletes to take part in an admirable community service event. The
special event was a hand extended invitation from Christopher Moore,
Director of Raleigh Parks & Recreation's Halifax Community Center. Mr.
Moore, who is also a valuable volunteer with Shaw's Department of Sports
Information, and the Cross Country teams devoted their afternoon to deliver
door-to-door bagged treats to three floors of the Capital Park & Parkview
Manor Senior Citizens Center located behind Peace College in downtown
Raleigh. Shaw's student-athletes were warmly welcomed with smiling hearts
and sincere "thank you" responses. Both teams departed with wishes for best
wishes in the upcoming season as well as a raving request for their rapid
return to visit.
The attending members of outing were as followed: Ashley Ligon, Jessica
Collins, Ashley Bledsoe, Joi Briscoe, Delilah Badgett, Donyelle Murdock,
Shareka Mitchell, Donchelle Florence, Christopher Harris, Jared Arnold,
Craig Perkins, Marc Allen, Corey Hargrove, Vitalis Wekheye, William Robinson
and Coach William Montague.
