RALEIGH, Sept. 3 - Cheryl Nance Promotions in association with Voice of Choice Productions held a press conference at noon in the ballroom of the Willie E. Gary Center on the campus of Shaw University to promote “Shaw Homecoming Fite Nite” which will take place Saturday October 9, 2004 at the Lighthouse Center located at 326 Tyron Road in Raleigh.  The main event will feature Jermel Barnes, former cruiser weight champion and 1996 graduate of Shaw University. 

The fight was put together by Henry "Discombobulating" Jones, a 1978 graduate of Shaw University and a world renown professional ring announcer as seen on ESPN/HBO, along with his newly formed company Choice Productions.  

The press conference was very entertaining as Jones talked about how he got to where he was and also introduced in the form that is his own, all those involved with the fight.  Barnes will face journeyman John Battle. 

"There is something that I need for you to do so we can make this night a success," said Barnes as he spoke to Battle via telephone.  "Okay," replied Battle.  "I want you to get Shaw University printed on the bottom of your  boxing boots so when you hit the canvas everyone can see my alma mater."
