Anthony Greenup scored a game-high 23 points but it wasn’t enough as Shaw fell to North Carolina Central 66-61 before a sellout crowd at Spaulding Gymnasium.

Shaw (4-8, 1-1) led by 32-25 on a tip-in by Greenup with 2:36 remaining in the first half.  The Eagles would rally and pull to within 32-31 on a tip-in by David Young (19 points) with 58 seconds remaining in the half and trailed 34-31 at halftime.

Shaw held its biggest lead of the game at 45-34 on a lay-up by Michael McLeod with 14:38 remaining in the game.  But North Carolina Central (6-6, 2-1) would keep it their deficit under 10 points over the next eight minutes.  Two free throws by Cordell Maxwell (22 points) put the Bears ahead 58-53 with 6:28 remaining.  The Eagles then went on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 63-58 lead with 1:19 remaining.  Maxwell hit a three-pointer with 53 seconds remaining and trailed 63-61.  But Curtis Knight came right back with a lay-up with 34 seconds remaining to put the Eagles up 65-61.  Shaw made 11-of-22 free throws.

Shaw will host Bowie State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
