Nile Patrick's putback of a missed shot with 0.5 seconds remaining put Bowie State up by one point over Shaw.  Tyrone Devoe three-pointer at the buzzer just missed and the Bulldogs defeated the Bears 88-87 before a packed house at Spaulding Gymnasium.

Shaw (1-1, 1-2, 4-9) trailed the entire first half and was down 37-21 on a lay-up by Nile with 4:18 remaining in the half.  But the Bears would come back and kept it close and Devoe's three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half put the Bears down 48-40 at halftime.

Bakary Konate's three-pointer at the 12:41 mark put the Bulldogs up 65-51.  The Bears deficit was compounded as they missed numerous free throws, finishing the game 19-of-41 from the charity stripe.

But Bowie State (3-0, 7-1, 12-2) could not hit free throws either, finishing 15-of-35 and let the Bears hang around.  Devoe's free throw with 5:14 remaining pulled the Bears to within two at 74-72.  The Bulldogs quickly pushed it up to 80-72 on a lay-up by Konate with 2:31 remaining.  But Shaw came back.  Cordell Maxwell's (14 points) three-pointer with :19 remaining pulled the Bears to within 86-85.  Damon Harrison stole the inbounds and Michael McLeod's jump hook with :09 remaining put the Bears up 87-86.  Kiyam Holloway got the ball up quickly and drove the right side for a lay-up which he missed and Patrick tapped it in with 0.5 seconds remaining.

Acuff led the Bears with 21 points.  Anthony Greenup had 18 points and McLeod had 15 to lead the Bears.  Letheal Cook and Konate had 21 a-piece.

The Bears will travel to Petersburg, VA to take on Virginia State on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
