Bears Suffer Another Hard Loss to JCSU, 78-91

Four Bears Score in Double Figures

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Bears falls to 3-22 overall and 1-17 in the CIAA while the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith improves to 14-8 overall, and 12-6 in conference play.  Four Bears were able to score in double-figures as they were led by Damola Obadina (6’5, JR, Forward, Minneapolis, MN) who recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

 

The Bears only made eight-of-31 (25.8%) shots in the first half while the Golden Bulls had their best first half of the season shooting 60.7% from the field to take a 50-26 led at the half. Smith had 10 turnovers which the Bears converted into nine points. It was all JCSU in the first half as Shaw just tried to keep the game as close as possible to regroup for the second half.

 

The Bears’ settled down in the second half, cutting the lead to 15 several times, but the damage was already done. Despite a though game the Bears were still able to get four players in double-figures. Leading the way was Obadina with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Also in double-figures was Cori Gaither (6’5, JR, Forward, Jacksonville, FL) who added 16 points and grabbed four rebounds while Melvin Smith (6’3, SR, Guard, Roanoke, VA) and Brandon Armistead (6’2, JR, Forward, Brooklyn, NY) added 12 and 11 points respectively.

 

Standing out for JCSU was Maurice Hooper who had a game high 24 points. Also scoring big for the Golden Bulls were David Sanders who had 14 points, Ryan Scott chipped in 13, and both Terry Givens and Edmund Rainey contributed 12 points each in the victory.

 

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday, February 20th as they travel to Petersburg, VA to take on the Trojans of Virginia State University.
