Obadina Records another Double-Double in 48-69 loss to Virginia Union

Raleigh, NC – The Bears of Shaw University (2-18; 0-13 CIAA; 0-5 East) played host to the defending CIAA Champions of Virginia Union University (12-3; 9-3 CIAA; 5-1 East). Shaw struggled in the first half of play, scoring only 12 points on 20% shooting. The Bears would improve offensively in the second half, scoring three times as many points before eventually falling by a final score of 69-48 to Virginia Union. 

 

Damola Obadina (6’5, JR, Forward, Minneapolis, MN) recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 23 rebounds. In a game where things would not seem to go in the ways of the Bears, both teams had 20 turnovers and the Panthers out rebounded the Bears by four; grabbing 39 to Shaw’s 35.

 

Shaw would score 28 points in the paint, 14 points off 20 of VUU turnovers, and 22 second chance points. Also scoring in double figures for Shaw was Brandon Armistead (6’2, JR, Guard, Brooklyn, NY) who scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Shaw shot 31.7% making 20 of their 63 shots.

 

Brad Byerson led the Panthers in scoring with a game high 20 points followed by Greg Thondique. 

 

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, February 3rd when they travel to Elizabeth City, NC to take on the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University.
