Kornegay Dropped 15 points in Bears 58-85 Loss to the Falcons
January 20, 2007
Raleigh,
NC – In a game that both teams wanted to win there could only be
one winner. Despite a hard loss the Bears had a great showing with
John
Kornegay (5’11, SO, Guard, Detroit, MI) scoring 15 points
for the Bears in the 58-85 effort against the Falcons of Saint Augustine’s
College.
The Bears had a great first half. Shaw shot 35% from the floor and played solid defense to keep the game close going into the half with the score 40-30 in favor of the Falcons. There were five lead changes in the first half with the Bears scoring 14 points in the first half.
In the second half, the Bears seem like a different team as the shot 40% from the floor and 37% from beyond the 3-point arc. The Falcons hit more shots than the Bears in the second half. Shaw shot 8 of 20 while the Falcons shot 17 of 32. Saint Augustine’s got off and made more shots.
Saint Augustine’s made 33 of 63 shots while Shaw made 18 of 48. Poor shot selections hurt the Bears in the end. The Bears shot 37% for the game from the floor and the Falcons shot 52% for the game. Kornegay would be leading scorer for the Bears with 15 points and Cori Gaither (6’5, JR, Forward, Jacksonville, FL) was not far behind scoring 12 points with five rebounds and three steals.
The Bears look to avenge this loss on Tuesday, January 23rd as they travel to Lawrenceville, VA to take on the Tigers of Saint Paul’s College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
