Shaw falls 80-65 to the Golden Bulls of JCSU

 

Charlotte, NC – The Bears of Shaw University (1-4 Overall; 0-2 CIAA) traveled to Charlotte, NC to take on the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University (3-4 Overall; 1-2 CIAA).  

The first half would go back and fourth between the Bears and Golden Bulls going into the half knotted up 37-37. Melvin Smith (6’3, 190, Senior, Roanoke, VA) guided the Bears with 14 points in the first half.  Smith shot an impressive 4 of 5 from behind the three point arc. The Bears shot 41.4% from the floor and 61.5% from the free-throw line. Both Javon Borum and Edmund Rainey had 12 points, respectively for the Golden Bulls who shot 59.1% from the floor.

Johnson C. Smith would come out rolling in the second half as they shot 61.5 % from the floor. The Bears would only score 28 points in the second being carried by Damola Obadina (6’5, 225, Junior, Minneapolis, MN) who had 15 points in the second half alone. Shooting 30.4% from the floor and 16.7% from behind the three point arc, the Bears just could not get things moving in the second half.  The Golden Bulls scored 43 points and shot 16.7% from behind the arc.

Obadina would record yet another double – double with 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Bears.  Smith would finish the game with 14 points.  Johnson C. Smith would finish the game with four of their five starters in double figures.

The Bears of Shaw University will be back in action on December 8th-9th as they travel to Durham, NC to take part in the Hilton RTP Classic.  On the first night, the Bears will take on Cheyney University at 5:00 pm. On the second night Shaw will take on host North Carolina Central.
