FALL TO BOWIE STATE 82-68
Bowie, MD –Poor second half
shooting and key turnovers down the stretch was too much for the Shaw
University Bears to overcome, as they loss the CIAA Eastern Division
match-up to Bowie State 82-68. The setback put the Bears at 5-18 and
3-5 in the East, while the Bulldogs improved to 15-9 and 4-3 in the
East.
BSU led all game but the Bears were in
striking distance when SU’s Daniel Jackson cut the lead to five (68-63)
with 4:36 left in the game. A jumper by Magnus St.Ange with 2:22 left
completed a 6-0 run that gave BSU an 11 point lead (74-63) closing the
door on the Bears. BSU scored their final eight points at the free
throw line.
BSU forced the Bears into 24 turnovers
and managed to get 28 points from their miscues. The Bears were also
held to 32% (10-31) shooting from floor in the second half, while the
Bulldogs shot 45% (10-22).
SU had three to finish with double
digits, led by James Rosebud with 19, Daniel Jackson 17 and Melvin Smith
with 11 points.
Pacing BSU was Derick Payne who led
all scorers and rebounders with 24 points and 20 rebounds. Kevin Bell
and Thomas Hawkins also had 19 points each.
