Shaw guard Michael McLeod hit two free throws with 8.8 seconds remaining to lift Shaw past St. Paul's 72-71.  For the Bears it was their fifth-straight win. 

Shaw (4-2, 6-4, 10-11) trailed 39-37 at halftime, but was paced by Cordell Maxwell's 14 points and Anthony Greenup's 11.  A three-pointer by Maxwell to open second half scoring gave Shaw a 40-39 lead with 18 minutes 33 seconds remaining.  St. Paul's began to slowly pull away as they were six-of-12 from behind the three-point line.  Terrence Martin (18 points) was unconscious for the Tigers making four three's in the second half and helping to spark the Tigers to their biggest lead of the game 69-59 with 3:59 remaining.  

But unlike other games this season, the Bears stayed calm, played smart, took excellent shots, forced turnovers and over the next 3 minutes and 28 seconds went on an 11-0 run as Maxwell's floater gave Shaw a 70-69 lead with 31.4 seconds remaining.  Mike Jones was fouled an hit two free throws to give the Tigers the 71-70 lead with 15.6 seconds remaining.  McLeod was then fouled on a drive to the basket and hit both free throws giving Shaw the lead.  Martin was then called for the offensive foul, giving Shaw possession again and Anthony Greenup (19 points) was immediately fouled.  He missed both free throws and Martin's desperation three from half court at the buzzer hit the backboard and bounced off the rim and the Bears escaped with the victory.  Ricky Williams was key in the second half, finishing with 16 points.

The Bears will travel to Bowie, MD to take on Bowie State in a pivotal eastern division match-up on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
