Shaw Squeaks by Elizabeth City State
Daryl
Jacobs hit two free throws with two seconds remaining and Darius Acuff stole
the subsequent inbounds pass as Shaw defeated Elizabeth City State 65-62 at
Spaulding Gymnasium.
Shaw (3-2, 6-4, 9-11) held its biggest lead of the game 45-23 on a lay-up by Michael McLeod with 17 minutes 29 seconds remaining in the second half. But the Vikings (2-4, 3-7, 10-11) would not go away as Devin Mooring (18 points) hit five-of-seven three-pointers in the half to help bring the Vikings back. With the Bears leading 63-60 Adama Diggs was fouled on a three-point shot attempt. He stepped to the line and made the first two and missed the third one, setting up Jacobs' free throws.
Anthony Greenup led Shaw with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Shaw will be in action on Tuesday as they travel to Lawrenceville, VA to take on St. Paul's at 7:30 p.m.
