Shaw Set to Begin Play in Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday

The Shaw women’s basketball team will begin play in the 2004 CIAA Tournament on Tuesday February 24 at 9:00 p.m., while the men’s team will begin play on Wednesday February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the RBC Center.  The Lady Bears, the top ranked team in the east, have a first round bye and will take on the winner of 4W Livingstone Lady Blue Bears versus 5E Virginia State Lady Trojans.

The Bears (11-15), the third seed in the east will take on the Blue Bears of Livingstone, the sixth seed in the west at 7:00 p.m.  If the Bears win that game, they will take on Fayetteville State, the second seed in the west who has a first round bye, on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.

The Lady Bears (25-2) defeated Livingstone in the two teams only meeting of the season 60-46 on January 24 at Spaulding Gymnasium and also defeated Virginia State twice this season 85-63 in Petersburg, VA on January 13 and 80-56 on February 17 at Spaulding Gymnasium.

The Bears defeated Livingstone 93-72 on January 24 at Spaulding Gymnasium and defeated Fayetteville State 78-76 on January 22 in Fayetteville.

The Lady Bears won the 2003 CIAA Tournament defeating Johnson C. Smith, while the Bears lost in the quarterfinals to St. Augustine's.
