The 2003-04
Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball South Atlantic All-Region teams
was announced today. The South Atlantic Region continues to be one of the most
talented regions in the nation top to bottom as is evident in one of the
closest voting in recent memory. Shaw's Anthony Greenup was named to the
first team.
Five members of the 10-member All-region teams are participating in this
weekend’s NCAA South Atlantic Regional, a sign of how deep the talent pool is
in the region. Each of the three conferences in the region were well
represented on the all-region teams. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (CIAA) had five selections while the Peach Belt Conference (PBC)
had three selections and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) had two
selections.
Greenup, a 6-8 senior forward from Baton Rouge, La., led the Shaw University Bears to a 12-16 overall record en route to earning CIAA Defensive Player of the Year honors. He averaged 20.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 1.0 assists while shooting 70.9% from the field and 47.5% from the free throw line en route to first team CIAA honors. He is the only player this season in NCAA Division II to be ranked in the top 30 in four different statistical categories (scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, and field goal percentage). He leads the nation in field goal percentage and is second in the CIAA in scoring and rebounding.
