Shaw Loses to Presbyterian

Presbyterian College senior guard Andrew Dellinger tallied a season-high 16 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 75-50 victory over the Shaw Bears in men’s basketball action Tuesday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

The game was a rematch from last March in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional won by the Blue Hose 77-58.

After trailing early in the game, the Blue Hose (4-2) took their first lead at 14-12 on a lay-up by Grant Herren at the 11:45 mark. Presbyterian would not trail the rest of the game and extended their lead to as many as 19 points (34-15) with 4:33 remaining in the half. The Bears would go on a 10-2 run down the stretch to cut the lead to 36-25 entering intermission.

The Blue Hose shot 46.4 percent from the field in the first half while holding the Bears to 36 percent from the field. The Blue Hose also dominated the boards 22-13 including 10 offensive rebounds in the first half. Shaw was led by Chas Bailey with 10 first half points.  Rich Adams led Presbyterian with seven points before intermission.

In the second half the Blue Hose pushed the lead to as many as 26 points in several occasions and finished the game hitting nine-of-10 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. Presbyterian dominated the boards 46-29 including 18 offensive boards while shooting 25-of-32 from the charity stripe.

Dellinger led the Blue Hose with 16 points on four-of-four shooting from beyond the arc while Adams tallied 11 points.  Johann Collins tallied three points and a game-high 10 rebounds. 

Shaw was led by junior guard Ricky Williams, who tallied 16 points and Bailey added 14 points.  Daryl Jacobs added six rebounds and a game-high nine blocked shots.

Shaw will next be in action on December 6 at North Carolina Central at 7:30 p.m.
