Welch threw four innings of no hit ball as only one runner
reached base on an error and Joe Williams pitched one inning of
not hit ball as Shaw defeated
St.
Paul
’s 32-0 in game one. The Tigers managed five hits in
game two but Shaw prevailed 20-0.
Welch’s perfect game was broken up in the fourth inning as the
Tigers Ricky Lewis reached base on an error. Shaw scored
20 runs in the second and 14 runs in the fourth. Senior
outfielder William Sanders went 4-for- five with 6 RBI and four
runs scored. Freshman centerfielder Avery Bryant was
5-for-5 with 3 RBI and four runs scored.
In game two the Bears scored 12 runs in the second inning to
bust open a 2-0 first inning lead. Junior second baseman
Brandon Smith homered in the fourth inning, capping off a
perfect 3-for-3 day.
Shaw runs its record to 12-12, 5-5 in the CIAA.
St. Paul
’s falls to 0-13, 0-6 in the CIAA. Shaw will host Morris
in doubleheader action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at
Lions
