The Shaw baseball team lost a
double header to Elizabeth City State 13-12 and 21-9 at Lions
Park.
In game one Shaw answered the Vikings four runs in the top of
the first with six runs of their own, capped off by Devon Capers
two-run double down the left field line which drove in Kasey
Welch and Ryan Donahue. The Vikings added four more runs
in their half of the second, but Shaw maintained its lead with
three runs in the bottom of the second holding on to a 9-8
lead. The Vikings led 13-10 heading into the bottom of the
seventh. Jarel Walter led the inning off with a
walk. Welch then got hold of a pitch and sent a two-run
blast to straight-away center pulling the Bears to within 13-12,
but the Bears could get no closer. Welch finished 3-for-4
with 5 RBI and two runs scored.
In game two, errors hurt the
Bears as the finished the game with seven. Walter and
Gerrard Everett had two hits a-piece. Shaw will face St.
Paul's in doubleheader action on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Lions
Park.
