Game 1 - Game 2

April 5, 2007

Bears Split with ECSU 10-11 and 15-13 in Baseball Action

Fuller has a blast as he went 6-for-9 with 9 RBIs in double-header action

Elizabeth City, NC – The Bears finished the season series 1-3 versus the Vikings of Elizabeth City State after a 10-11 and 15-13 split.  Shaw now holds a record of 15-18 overall and 8-6 in conference play while the Vikings are 14-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

In game one, the Vikings gained the victory from a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 8th inning to give them an 11-10 come from behind victory. Shaw led up until the bottom of the 6th inning when the Vikings scored five runs.  Shaw led 9-5 going into the 6th inning after which the Vikings took the lead 9-10 over the Bears.  Dontario Fuller hit a bullet home-run shot in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 10 all.  Shaw could not get a run in the top of the 8th inning which proved to be costly for the Bears in the bottom of the 8th inning.  The thing that really hurt the Bears in the first game was the fact that they left 10 runners on the bases.

Gregory Johnson went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs in the first game and Micheal Grant also went 3-for-5 with 3 runs of his own.  Johnson, Avery Bryant, Fuller, and Fred Miller all hit home runs for the Bears in the first game but it just was not enough to hold off the Vikings.

In game two it was just the opposite from what happened in the first game. The Vikings jumped out to a 10-1 lead by the close of the 2nd inning. The Bears then went on to hold ECSU scoreless minus a run in the bottom of the 5th, while they rolled off 14 runs to take a 15-11 advantage into the bottom of the 7th.  The Vikings scored only two runs in the bottom of the 7th, but the damage had already been done by the Bears.

Fuller really shined in game two going 4-for-5 with 7 RBIs and he scored three times. Fuller also had the only homerun for the Bears in the second game.

The Bears will be back in action on Friday, April 6th at 1:00 pm as they host the Hornets of Morris College at Lions Park.  For more information contact the Shaw University Office of Sports Information.
