Shaw’s Baseball Team Comes Full Circle in Special Presentation to President

Raleigh, NC – (January 31, 2007) The baseball team of Shaw University is thrilled and anxious to get started with their season game opener February 15th against Columbia Union University at Noon.  With the reinstatement of baseball at the University behind them, the team members collectively decided to make a special presentation of appreciation to Dr. Clarence G. Newsome, President of Shaw University and Al Carter, Director of Athletics.

During halftime at the men’s basketball game on Tuesday, January 30th, the baseball team took center court with Dr. Newsome and Coach Carter and read a proclamation that the team had compiled, signed and framed for presentation.  Led by Michael Grant, he told the crowd that the team appreciated the efforts of Dr. Newsome and Coach Carter in getting the program reinstated and that they were looking for an exciting season of baseball.

Both Dr. Newsome and Coach Carter were thrilled to receive the plaques from the team and promised them that they would support them in full measure along with the Shaw Family.

The team posed for photos with Dr. Newsome and Coach Carter.  These student athletes, coached by Bobby Sanders, are shining examples of excellence and stewardship at Shaw University.  The Shaw University Family salutes the baseball team and will be on hand to support their season that is sure to be successful!
