BEARS GET BETTER OF CROSS-TOWN RIVAL
Charlotte, NC April 15 - Last year St. Augustine's gave Shaw two losses and knocked the Bears out of the CIAA Tournament.  Facing elimination the Bears would exact a little revenge as  CIAA Rookie of the Year Kevin White pitched a complete game, striking out 6 in route to a 6-3 Shaw Bear victory over Saint Augustine’s. The loss ousts the Falcons while the Bears advance to play the loser of the Elizabeth City State/Virginia State contest slated for 10:00am Friday at Victory Christian High School.

BEARS NIPPED BY TROJANS
Charlotte, NC, April 15 - The Virginia State University Trojans were put to the test early in their quest to repeat as CIAA Baseball Champions.

In game 1, it took the Trojans’ last-at-bat to edge the Shaw University Bears 2-1. It was a defensive showcase until VSU broke the scoreless tie on a RBI single by Jonathan Greer in the bottom of the 5th. The lone Shaw score would come in the 9th before being negated in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Ernest Craddock, which scored Wayne Williams from 3rd base. The loss dropped the Bears to the losers’ bracket.

BEARS ESCAPE TIGERS’ ONSLAUGHT

Advance to 2004 CIAA Baseball Championships

Charlotte, NC, April 14- In the 2004 Baseball Championship Play-In Game, the Shaw University Bears survived a late rally by the Saint Paul’s College Tigers, winning 9-8 at Victory Christian High School.

The Bears were 3 outs away from an 8-2 victory when the Tigers went on a tear, scoring 6 runs in the top of the 7th inning to tie the game. Then the underdog hopes were dashed when in the Bears’ half of the inning an RBI single by Jerel Walters scored Gerrard Everett as Shaw escaped with the 1-run triumph.
