Shaw Takes Two from Cross-Town Rival

The Shaw baseball team defeated St. Augustine’s 9-4 and 11-3 in doubleheader action at Lyons Park.

In game one, the Bears (9-9, 6-2) got eight runs in the bottom of the first as Milton Redd’s three-run homerun capped off the inning.  That would be all that pitcher Eric Rice would need as he went seven innings giving up four runs and striking out four.  JaMarnes Pair went six innings for the Falcons (5-13, 2-2) giving up eight runs and 10 hits while striking out 10.  Pair tried to help his own cause by going 2-for-3.  Warren Tyson, Jermaine Rogers and William Gray each had two hits for the Bears.

In game 2, the Bears scored four runs in the first, three in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth.  Sanders’s two-run double down the left field line scored Gray and Redd as he helped his own cause going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and two runs scored.  Sanders went the distance, earning his first victory of the season going seven innings giving up one earned run.  Tyson Rogers and Gray had two hits a-piece in this game as well, as did Sanders.  Aaron Chambers had two hits for the Falcons.
