White, Smith Named to All-Tournament Team
PETERSBURG,
VA - Pitcher Kevin White and second baseman Brandon Smith were
named to the 2005 CIAA All-Tournament Team. White,
a sophomore from Hattiesburg, MS picked up the victory in the
7-4 victory over St. Augustine's by going the full nine innings
giving up only two earned runs, scattering six hits, while
striking out eight. Smith, a junior from Chicago, IL
batted .643 in the tournament with 9 RBI.

Shaw vs. ECSU Rescheduled Due to Inclement Weather
PETERSBURG,
VA - The Shaw vs. Elizabeth City State baseball game, scheduled
for 12 noon today, has been rescheduled for Saturday April 23 at
11:00 a.m., due to rain. The game will be played at Whaley
Colbert Field.

The
Shaw baseball team defeated
St. Paul
’s on Wednesday in the play-in game to make itself eligible
for the 2005 CIAA Baseball Championship. The Bears took a
step closer to making it to the championship game, be defeating
cross-town rival
St. Augustine
’s 7-4 in the double elimination tournament played at Whaley
Colbert Field.

Sophomore
first baseman Kevin White and freshman centerfielder Avery
Bryant were named CIAA Player and Offensive Player of the Week,
respectively. White, a Hattiesburg, MS native who also
pitches for the Bears, batted .421 in six games last week with 6
RBI, 4 2B and 5 SB. Bryant,
a Laurinburg, NC native batted .400 in six games last week,
driving in five runs.
