The Shaw Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics has launched the Shaw Bear Sports Radio Network, which will begin
airing Shaw football games on August 28.
The network currently consists of 10 stations and Shaw football games
can be heard throughout the state of North Carolina, most notably in the
Triangle, Charlotte, the Triad (Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem),
Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Goldsboro and Eastern North Carolina.
The games can also be heard in other states including Virginia, where
games can be heard in the Hampton Roads area and Richmond-Petersburg and in
the Baltimore/Washington area. The
department will look into expanding the network for the upcoming basketball
season as well.
“We are extremely excited about the Shaw
Bear Sports Radio Network,” said Donal Ware, Assistant Athletics Director
for Sports Information/Marketing. “The
network gives a chance for our loyal alumni, fans and supporters in areas such
as Charlotte, the Triad, Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Baltimore, (MD),
Washington (DC), Hampton Roads and Richmond (VA) to listen to follow our teams
and our [athletics] department. It
also gives our students at our cape centers around the state in Ahoskie,
Fayetteville, High Point, Greenville and Kannapolis a chance to follow our
teams as well. We realize that
they can’t make it to every game so we feel this is a way to reach out to
them and bring the games to them so-to-speak.
“This is our first venture into radio
networking but we feel confident it will be very successful and we will look
into expanding the network to include other cities and areas in the very near
future.”
The network will broadcast all 10 of
Shaw’s football games this season.
