Shaw Alum Honor 2010 Champions
Three championship banners were hung, albeit temporarily, at the Shaw Alumni House as the Shaw University National Alumni Association honored Shaw’s 2010 Champions: the men’s and women’s tennis teams and the football team.
In a packed room, athletes from the three teams listened to greetings from Dr. Emily Perry, President of the National Alumni Association, then dug into homemade food.
The men’s tennis team won its sixth straight championship last spring after going undefeated through the CIAA and easily sweeping their opponents in the CIAA Championships.
The women’s tennis team won its second straight CIAA crown also going undefeated through the conference schedule and sweeping through the CIAA Championship tournament.
The football team won its third championship in four years, defeating Virginia State 14-7 in the title game. They went 9-3 on the year, but were undefeated in conference play.
Al Carter, Athletic Director for Shaw, brought greetings on behalf of Head Football Coach Darrell Asberry who was in Atlanta to receive the CIAA Coach of the Year Award from the 100% Wrong Club.
