WILLIAMS NAMED 2017 CIAA JOHN HOLLEY SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR

CHARLOTTE, NC The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) named Shaw University's Jolisa Williams as the 2017 CIAA John Holley Sports Information Director of the Year announced at the annual Spring General Assembly Meeting and end of the year awards reception on May 16.

In just her second year at Shaw, Williams has been appointed as the CIAA Sports Information Director Association Vice President by her peers. Highlighted by the Lady Bears two championship titles and NCAA tournament appearances (women's volleyball and women's tennis), Williams has been at the forefront of promoting all 13 varsity sport teams at Shaw, launching a completely revamped athletics website (www.shawbears.com), enhancing social media visibility with the use of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat and producing game day and final score graphics. She is regarded by her association colleagues for her remarkable writing and timely communication. Williams served on her first conference committee this year at the outdoor track and field championship.

The John Holley (CIAA SID of the Year) Award is named after veteran publications, public relations and sports information practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in the field, the late Mr. John Holley. A native of Baltimore, MD, Holley directed the public information, publications and sports information programs at Albany State College in Georgia for 14 years. In addition, he held public relations posts at Morgan State University, Mansfield University, and Lincoln University (MO). Holley also served as sports information director at Norfolk State University and Morehead State University.

"I am so honored and humbled to receive this award," said Williams. "This was always a dream of mines when I first arrived at Shaw. I want to thank my fellow athletic administrators, coaches and staff at Shaw as well as my family, peers and colleagues, in addition to those whom have played a major role in my life or have been an advocate for me in this profession."

A native of Charles City, Va., Williams graduated magna cum lade from Saint Augustine's University in 2012 with a Bachelors in Sport Management and earned a Master's in Sport Management from Virginia State University in 2014. She currently is pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Athletic Administration from Northcentral University. Williams is a member of CoSIDA and BC-SIDA.

Williams is the first sports information director from Shaw to receive the award in six years. Former SID, Sherri Fillingham received the honor in 2011 and 2009.
