Shaw’s Unsung Hero: The Platinum Sound Marching Band

Many heroes are qualified by huge accomplishments and usually receive the biggest trophies and plaques; media recognition and other accolades to signal their imprint on the world.  Other heroes go quietly into the night unrecognized for their huge accomplishments and excellence without the media recognition and fanfare.  An unsung but deserving hero at Shaw University is the Platinum Sound Marching Band; the perfect role model and example of pride, tradition, school spirit and excellence.

Under the direction of Charles V. Brown, this amazing group of talented students has been hard at work early in the morning, mid-day and into the evening in preparation for the 2006-2007 academic year to fulfill obligations for every event ranging from athletics, concerts, Fall Convocation, Commencement and other commitments that are required in between.  Always poised, well dressed and well mannered, these students are exceptional ambassadors for the University at all events.

They showed up and showed out with the biggest sounds and skills for the Freshman Orientation School Spirit session on Friday, August 11th on the Quad.  The new students and parents were moving in rhythm to the big sounds that they performed for the crowd.  The drum majors directed with excitement and powerful moves as each band member played skillfully; focused; eyes front.  The drum line performed a precision and rhythmic number that generated cheers and A Taste of Honey choreographed dance steps to the tunes that drew excitement.  The crowd applauded until they cleared the Quad; actually wanting more of their astounding sound and talent.

The Shaw University Platinum Sound Marching Band is one of our brightest and shining stars.  Their level of excellence and performance is second to none.  Their craftsmanship, musicianship and sound is solid Platinum!

Get your popcorn early so that you won’t miss the halftime show at the upcoming football game.  They will be a big part of the Labor Day Classic Weekend as Shaw University will go on to defeat North Carolina Central University.

The Shaw University Family salutes the Platinum Sound Marching Band and the Director, Charles V. Brown!
