Lady Bears Ranked 23rd in USA Today Poll

Jacques Curtis Captures Shaw Win Record

(Raleigh, NC) –  Shaw University’s women’s basketball team was today ranked 23rd in the USA Today Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The ranking comes on the heels of Shaw’s 51-44 win over then 18th ranked Virginia State, and a 68-64 win over Virginia Union.  Virginia State dropped to 24th in this week’s poll.  The Lady Bears are 10-1 overall, 6-1 in the CIAA.

Saturday’s win over VSU tied Head Coach Jacques Curtis for the Shaw University record for most wins in women’s basketball.  Last night’s win over VUU – Curtis’ 204th with the program – set the record.

The Lady Bears return home on Saturday, January 16 to face off against Elizabeth City State at 5:30 p.m. in C. C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
