Balanced Scoring Leads Lady Bears to Easy 84-61 Victory Over Lincoln (Raleigh, NC) – Four Lady Bears scored in double figures and a total of nine made it to the scoreboard as Shaw handily defeated Lincoln (PA) 84-61.
Shaw’s strong defense kept the Lady Lions beyond the arc for much of the game. Lincoln attempted 22 three pointers, making only four (18.2%). The Lady Bears controlled the game from the opening tip forward. They scored the first seven points of the game before the Lady Lions got on the scoreboard with a three-pointer from Danielle Smallwood. Smallwood’s touch from the three-point line kept Lincoln in the game throughout the first half. With 11:46 left in the first half, the Lady Bears held a 12-point lead. Only 42 seconds later, Smallwood had cut the lead to six with two consecutive treys. They Lady Lions cut the lead to four with 8:53 left in the half, but the Lady Bears went on a 15-5 scoring run to close out the half, giving them the 35-21 lead. In the second half, the Lady Bears built their lead on speed, scoring 14 points on the fast break. With 9:56 left in the game, the Lady Bears saw their lead shrink to 12, but answered with nine straight points including five from McGaughey. After that, the Lady Bears never let Lincoln inside 17 points, and the Shaw bench got their chance to shine. On the evening, the Lady Bears bench outscored Lincoln’s bench 28-10. McGaughey also led the Lady Bears in rebounds with eight. Maggie Tanner had seven. Harrison led Shaw with six assists. Smallwood finished the game with 18 points for the Lady Lions, while Sharay Dubose had 16 and DeJuana Mosley had 12. Mosley led Lincoln with eight rebounds. Chanelle Harris had three assists to lead the Lady Lions.
